Congratulations to all the learners of the Higher School ng UMak (HSU), the cream of the crop among the Senior High School aspirants! As the youngest member of the University of Makati, you are unique and exceptional. Welcome to the home of the Great Brave Heron!

HSU is a place where learning is best achieved by effective application and display of academic competencies and core values acquired inside and outside its classroom. HSU anchors its philosophy from the former President Tomas B. Lopez’ (TBL) viewpoint – “relevant and responsive education for the children of the underprivileged citizen of Makati”. HSU as a Senior High School (SHS) program being implemented in a university promotes Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) approach by the University of Makati, and supports the K to12 Education System by the Department of Education.

As a background, HSU is one of the educational innovations and legacies of the late TBL who believes in the merit and contribution of the program as a shot in the arm to improve the quality of basic education. The K-12 Senior High School Modelling Program (SHSMP) was implemented at the University of Makati through a Memorandum of Agreement with the three key players: The City Government of Makati through the University of Makati (UMak), the Department of Education (DepEd), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Thus, the University of Makati was one of the original schools identified by the DepEd to model the K to 12 Education Curriculum for Senior High School.

HSU provides a wide range of academic programs that incorporate the development of competencies and character through a series of well-established and innovative teaching strategies and learner support system. Beyond the academic programs, the establishment of student organizations accredited by the university were designed to form activities that will promote and enhance both hard skills and soft skills of the learners.

In your academic journey as senior high, my advice to you is this: take into consideration 5Gs: Grit, Giftedness, Gratitude, Genuineness and God-fearing for a fulfilling learning experience at HSU. Study hard, recognize your talent, be grateful, be honest and acknowledge God in everything. Take 3D in learning: Delight, Desire and Discipline in every learning activities. I will look forward to see you uplift and make a positive impact on your family, nation, and the world.

Vision

In partnership with parents, the community and other stakeholders, we shall provide learners access to quality 21st century education and life-long skills through pioneering senior high school teaching in an atmosphere of structured, collective, and holistic learning experience.

Mission

We envision our students who are competently prepared for higher education and world of work, culturally rooted, civic minded, and imbued with core values such as Maka-Diyos, Maka-Bayan, Maka-Tao, at Maka-Kalikasan.

Makadiyos – Expresses one’s spiritual beliefs while respecting the spiritual beliefs of others / Shows adherence to ethical principles by upholding truth.
Makatao – Sensitive to individual, social, and cultural differences / Demonstrates contributions towards solidarity.
Makakalikasan – Cares for the environment and utilizes resources wisely, judiciously, and economically.
Makabansa – Demonstrates pride of being a Filipino, exercises the rights and responsibilities of a Filipino citizen. Demonstrates appropriate behavior in carrying out activities in the school, community, and country.
