Being lifelong learners, UMak and HSU faculty are continuously supported and given opportunities to grow as academicians and scholars. The Center for Curriculum and Materials Development launched two essential webinars for our 21st century educators on research mentoring and instructional design. Opening the webinar series was Prof. Rey S. Medenilla with his short message emphasizing how these programs intend to support and aide our academic community. Complimenting the successful 4th Research Congress, the first webinar series was entitled “Innovative Research Mentoring” with Dr. Alexander S. Acosta PhD from Philippine School Doha, and Dr. Imee C. Acosta EdD from Virginia Commonwealth University of Doha, Qatar. Conducted last December 3 and 10, 2021, the two-day comprehensive lecture and discussion focused on research strategies for mentors of quantitative and qualitative researchers. Dr. Alexander S. Acosta emphasized on his best practices in qualitative research and mentoring processes to ensure a productive relationship between the mentor and mentee. On the 2nd day of the webinar, Dr. Imee C. Acosta EdD shared her insights on conducting quantitative research and one of their mentee’s research journeys under their mentorship program. Both sessions provided the participants with an opportunity to improve their research mentoring skills both for their students and also for their own professional developments.

Taking a look at the other important facet of being academician and scholars, the second webinar series was “Rudiments of Instructional Design: Assuring Curricular Alignment of Digital Learning Contents” with Prof. Bernadette C. Daran, a supervising educational program specialist of the Department of Education. Her two-day lecture last December 8 and 9, 2021 was a discussion and workshop on how educators may enhance their delivery of instruction especially during this time of flexible learning. Contextualizing the various pedagogies and techniques, Prof. Daran explains how educators may improve on their instructional design and gear toward outcome-based online content development that responds to Filipino learners needs and attitudes towards their educational journey

Concluding the webinar series last December 10, 2021, Dr. Ederson DT Tapia, Vice-President for Planning and Research, highlights the importance of these learning initiatives that are dedicated for our academe to be fully equipped and prepared during these ever-changing times in our educational landscape. Upholding its duty, the Center for Curriculum and Materials Development, led by Prof. Rey S. Medenilla together with Ms. Ma. Cristina Samonte, successfully conducted these valuable webinar series through Zoom which concludes 2021’s learning initiatives for the UMak community.
