Social Technology Bureau recognizes UMak’s contributions to DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program

With around 160 local government units, partners, and stakeholders, the University of Makati (UMak) was recognized for its exemplary efforts in its commitment to the implementation of Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the recent Social Technology (ST) Expo 2024.

Students from the College of Innovative and Teacher Education (CITE) and Institute of Psychology (IOPsy) are the main participants of the Tara, Basa! who served as tutors of G2 DepEd learners from Makati and Youth Development Workers (YDWs).

Meanwhile, Mr. Elton Nuqui, 2024 Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies graduate, and one of the YDWs from UMak, expressed his experiences and insights which underscored the transformative impact of innovative solutions and the potential of young people to drive positive change “Nag-iwan ng magandang karanasan ang Tara, Basa!

With the theme “Empowerment Evolution: Unleashing Potential Through Innovation”, the ST Expo 2024 highlights DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program, Walang Gutom Program, Pag-Abot Program, and the newly completed ST projects.

The ST Expo 2024 provided a platform for UMak to connect with like-minded organizations, share best practices, and explore future collaborations. The university’s participation in this event reinforces its dedication to social responsibility and its commitment to leveraging technology to create a better future for all.

Present to receive the recognition is CITE Teacher Quality and Experiential Learning Head Tomasa Quiñones and IOPsy Administrative Office Marc Ricson Bacordio.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian led the ceremony together with Innovations Group Undersecretary Eduardo Punay, Assistant Secretary Baldr Bringas, Program Development and Enhancement OIC-Assistant Secretary Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo, and ST Bureau Director Helen Suzara.
