UMak is 1st LCU recognized by CDA as Accredited Cooperative Training Provider

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) awarded UMak a Certificate of Accreditation as a Cooperative Training Provider last October 31 – a milestone event with UMak becoming the first local college and university (LCU) in the country recognized as an Accredited Cooperative Training Provider by the CDA.

Witnessed by officials from UMak and officers and members from the cooperative sector, the Certificate of Accreditation was awarded by CDA NCR Extension Office Regional Director Pedro Defensor, Jr. to UMak President Elyxzur Ramos.

The CDA is a government agency duly organized and existing by virtue of R.A. 6939, as strengthened by R.A. 11364, also known as the “Cooperative Development Authority Charter of 2019.” It was created to promote the viability and growth of cooperatives in the Philippines as instruments of equity, social justice, economic development, and continuing training.

As the CDA is mandated to establish linkages with the academe and other institutions on education, training, and research for cooperatives, CDA and UMak signed a three-year Memorandum of Agreement last January geared towards improving the education and training of cooperatives in the country.

CDA’s awarding of the Certificate of Accreditation solidifies the partnership, paving the way for the realization of its various collaborative cooperative development programs for the next three years, such as the conduct of capacity building of Cooperative officers and members, including mandatory training and training of trainers, and the development of course modules, online Learning Management System, research, and other academic or scholarly papers.

During the awarding program, messages of support were given by UMak Vice President for Administration Jewel Bulos, UMak Vice President for Finance Luke Ivan Moro, UMak Vice President for Student Services and Community Development Virgilio Tabbu, Federation of Makati Cooperatives Chair and concurrent Cooperative Development Council of Makati Chair Leonardo Pasquito, UMak Coop or UMak Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (UMEMPC) Chair Edita Bayona, UMEMPC General Manager Jernell Sanchez, and Center for Linkages and Placement Director Cynthia Margaretta José.
