UMak Welcomes Freshmen with a Splash

“One of our main goals is to promote student involvement,” said Mr. Einnor Asuncion, USC President, as they revived the water festival concept from Heron’s Night 2019.

The UMak Student Council (USC) organized another water festival-inspired Herons’ Welcome to greet the freshmen and Grade 11 students on September 25, 2024, at the University of Makati (UMak) Stadium. This year’s event was themed ‘Herons’ Odyssey: Horizon to Heights.’ 

Herons are welcomed with a parade, wearing colored shirts representing their respective institutions and colleges within the university.

Former and current officials from various barangays, Hon. Hein Angeles from Brgy. Guadalupe Viejo, Hon. Maribel Frias Vitales from Brgy. Southside, and Hon. Fernando Bolo from Brgy. Pinagkaisahan, along with Makati City District ll Councilors  Hon. Ina Sarosa and Hon. Bong Ariones attended as special guests. Meanwhile, the Community Fire Auxiliary Group and the Guadalupe Viejo Fire and Rescue Team provided fire trucks for the water splash activity.

CAST, UMak Dance Extreme, UMak Chorale, and UMak Jammers, all under the UMak Center for Culture and Arts, UMak Pep Squad from the Center for Athletic Development, as well as the band Project: TheyBreak, performed at the festival. The candidates of Mr. and Ms. UMak 2025 Metanoia: Within (MMU 2025) also formally introduced the students.

The day concluded with a group performance of the song “I LOVE UMak,” ending with a splash.
