Atty. Duka’s and Dr. Pila’s “Dr. Jose P Rizal: The Timeless Filipino” Launched in UMak

The University of Makati (UMAK), home of the Great Brave Herons, proudly hosted the book launch of “Dr. Jose P. Rizal: The Timeless Filipino” in collaboration with Vibal Publishing House Inc. This event took place on July 20, 2023, with a meaningful gathering aimed at introducing the new book to the public.

As a higher education institution, UMAK is dedicated to nurturing its students’ moral character, personal discipline, and civic conscience. In line with these commitments, the university recognizes the immense value of the life and work of Dr. Jose Rizal in the holistic development of its students. Authored by Dr. Rowena A. Pila, an experienced educator and researcher, and Atty. Cecilio Dioneda Duka, Associate Dean of the UMAK School of Law, this textbook seeks to reintroduce our national hero to the current generation.

The book delves deep into Rizal’s life, ideas, and creative works, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of the hero’s formative years and the events that molded his character. Dr. Rizal’s journey serves as a symbol of inspiration to future generations, and this textbook serves as a guide to comprehending the profound impact he had on our nation’s history. Furthermore, it invites readers to reflect on the consequences of colonialism, the struggles of identity, the enduring power of literature as an agent of change, and the transformative influence of a single individual in shaping a nation.
