Objectives
The Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) of the University of Makati School of Law (UMak-SOL) is dedicated to empower its law students and its community in promoting climate justice, combating global warming and fostering renewable energy initiatives designed to meet the distinct environmental concerns of Makati City and the Philippines.
The Center is driven by the following objectives:
- To provide legal assistance in pursuing legal actions aimed to defend the earth’s ecosystem and the elements upon which life depends – land, air and water.
- To organize seminars, conferences and public awareness campaigns regarding environmental and renewable energy laws designed to equip our law students, the UMak community and the citizens of Makati City with the necessary skills and cognitive knowledge on climate justice.
- To establish partnerships and linkages with local government agencies, environmental organizations and renewable energy institutions in order to advocate evidence-based policies that encourage the adoption and use of renewable energy and the pursuit of environmental preservation and climate justice.
- To undertake cutting-edge legal research designed to formulate policy recommendations to the City of Makati regarding climate justice and renewable energy solutions.
- To disseminate research findings, policy recommendations and best green practices through publications and online platforms with the end in view of contributing to the academic community and to the environment and renewable energy sectors in order to foster a culture of environment and renewable energy activism to our law students and to the UMak community.
Vision
The CEE envisions to develop a community of environmental stewards who will be at the forefront in the fight for climate justice, sustainable environment and renewable energy to enforce the legal right of the Filipino people to a balanced and healthful ecology for present and future generations.
The CEE aims to be a catalyst for sustainable development, playing a critical role in shaping a future that prioritizes environmental stewardship, the utilization of renewable energy and the advancement of a proactive response to the pervading threat of climate change.
The CEE aims to promote a comprehensive appreciation of how the law plays a critical role in addressing energy and environmental issues. By establishing sustainable programs and activities, the CEE aims to increase knowledge about the various legal aspects and mechanisms available to address energy and environmental challenges.
Mission
The CEE aims to bring together law students, professors and other members of the UMak community who have a heart for climate justice and renewable energy. The CEE advocates knowledge sharing, community collaboration and the establishment of partnerships and linkages with other environment activists in order to address issues regarding energy and environment.
The CEE intends to establish an accessible legal green clinic that will handle environmental cases and provide policy recommendations to concerned parties with the end in view of ensuring compliance with environment treaties and Philippine environment laws.
Through these efforts, the CEE strives to create a more informed and empowered community of individuals working together towards a sustainable energy development and environmental future for the Philippines.
