THE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH MANUAL Title 1 Article 2
Section 3. The CUR Director
The Director shall have the following functions:
- Oversees and consolidates the overall function of the Center.
- Establishes and delivers a comprehensive data strategy in connection with the City of Makati’s Urban Development Department (UDD) to enhance the University’s capabilities in promoting a research culture environment.
- Formulates policies based on qualified research outputs that will benefit the institution.
- Enforces duly approved policies on research and innovation.
Section 4. External Grants and Engagement Officer (EGEO)
The External Grants and Engagement Officer (EGEO) shall have the following functions:
- Establishes partnerships with industry, research organizations, and other HEIs (public and private) for collaborative and commissioned research work.
- Seeks and initiates research initiatives for grants.
- Processes Financial Grant submissions such as evaluations and reviews, processing requirements, and endorsement to the City Government of Makati.
- Processes Research Project and Implementation Incentive submissions such as evaluations and reviews, processing requirements, and endorsement to the City Government of Makati.
- Processes Publication Incentives Program such as evaluations and reviews, processing requirements, and endorsement to the City Government of Makati.
- Helps the director in drafting and implementing such policies relevant to their function.
Section 5. General Research Services Officer (GRSO)
The General Research Services Officer (GRSO) shall have the following functions:
- Be the focal person of the General Research Services.
- Coordinate with the Research Coordinators of the Colleges, Institutes, and Schools on their general research needs (as represented by broken line in the organizational chart).
- Oversee the use of the Research Software managed by CUR. They may delegate or directly assist in the processing of raw data for research purposes.
- Processes certification of research for promotions purposes, likewise investigates legitimacy of research publications and conferences.
- Creates a list of reputable non-Scopus journals and conferences.
- Helps the director in drafting and implementing such policies relevant to their function.
- They shall organize research directive sessions to ensure that all the policies of the center shall be understood and implemented properly by the community.
Section 6. Specialized Research Services Officer (SRSO)
The Specialized Research Services Officer (SRSO) shall have the following functions:
- Be the focal person of the Specialized Research Services.
- Organizes learning sessions on and mentor the community in writing research and other academic papers for the purpose of publishing in SCOPUS Indexed Journals.
- Coordinates with Innovation Incubation Section in publishing their papers.
- Coordinates with General Research Services Officer on the reputation and legitimacy of journals and conferences.
- Helps the director in drafting and implementing such policies relevant to their function.
Section 7. University Publication Officer (UPO)
The University Publication Officer (UPO) shall have the following functions:
- Be the focal person of University Publication (represented by solid line in the organizational chart).
- May be the editor-in-chief or the Associate Editor-in-Chief of UNIVERSITAS: The Official Journal of the University of Makati.
- Do editorial review of the peer reviewed articles submitted for publication in UNIVERSITAS or for Paper Presentation during the Research Congress.
- Manages https://journals.umak.edu.ph.
- Endorses the accreditation of the Research Journals of the Colleges, Schools, and Institutes.
- Organizes the University Research Congress (represented by solid line in the organizational chart).
- Monitors the Research Conferences of the Colleges, Schools, and Institutes.
- Helps the director in drafting and implementing such policies relevant to their function.
Section 8. Innovation Incubation Officer (IIO)
Head of Innovation Incubation Officer (IIO) shall have the following functions:
- Be the focal person of Innovation Incubation Services.
- Manages the Organized Research Units (ORUs) (represented by solid line in the organizational chart).
- Facilitates the innovation program for notable research outputs and capstone projects leading to their incubation.
- Coordinates with Center for Data Protection and Records Management for patent and copyright application of the inventions, capstone projects, and business and entrepreneurial ideas and initiatives of UMak (represented by broken line in the organizational chart).
- Establishes business and industry linkage for commercialization and technology transfer.
- Helps the director in drafting and implementing such policies relevant to their function.
Section 9. Administrative Staff
The CUR administrative officers and assistants shall have the following functions:
- Assists the Director, Research Officer, and the Section Leads.
- Performs administrative tasks, i.e., office management, monitoring emails and social media accounts, and preparing reports, and documents.
- Develops and builds customer relations.
- Helps in the data gathering for university research projects and other proponents who wish to conduct their research on campus if they have undergone the proper procedures provided by Title 2. Article 4 of the Research Manual.
Section 10. Research Coordinator Job Description
- Manage Research Teachers.
- Attend seminars capacitating for the conduct of research and managing the research department, such as the use of research software, research methodology, research ethics, and academic integrity, research writing and citation conventions, etc.
- Develop and contextualize the research curriculum relevant to their college, school, or institute following DEPED or CHED curriculum standards as expressed in their policies, approved by CUR and CCMD.
- Managing editor of the CUR-Accredited Research Journal.
- Supervise the student research flow.
- Checks for authenticity/originality of the papers using anti-plagiarism software. Provides Turnitin utilization report every end of the semester.
- Ensure that all research papers have undergone UMREC evaluation of the research protocols, and CUR evaluation of full papers.
Section 11. Duties and Responsibilities of Adjunct Research Professor
CUR through the adjunct research professors shall:
- Initiate, implement, and publish research that contributes to “the continual enrichment of its body of knowledge and/or the development of the City Government of Makati as the premier city of the country” (Vision statement and Goal 5 of CUR) which will contribute to the World University Rankings of the UMak.
- Establish better “partnerships with industry, research organizations, and other HEIs for collaborative and commissioned research work” (Mission statement of CUR) which shall be an opportunity for research grants
- Provide “technical research competence to UMak faculty members, students, and administrative personnel.” (Goal 1 of CUR)
