HSU Joins “Ako Ay Pilipino” Writing Contest

The Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines, Inc.- District 383 conducted “Ako ay Pilipino Contest” last November 22, 2022, at the Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines, Inc. Headquarters, San Antonio Village Makati City. The activity showcased the talents of the Grade 12 students from the public schools under the District 383 of the said club. The Ako ay Pilipino contest was conceptualized as a search for talented, promising, physically healthy and physically challenged young Filipino of both genders whose leadership potential and evident love for our country and its people should be nurtured so that the winners may be effective participants in the community development. The contest was composed of two categories, essay writing and an impromptu speech.

The senior high school department of our university joined this year’s contest, represented by Ms. Sandara Villon, Grade 12-01 TRM student and current president of Nervecentour- the official organization of the Tourism students of HSU. His coach is Mr. Marnel Caga, faculty from the ABM and Languages of the said department.

Sandara bagged second place competing with 9 other students from Makati, Taguig, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, and other cities managed by the District 383 of the Inner Wheel clubs.

The students answered different questions from the esteemed judges who are professionals in their field such as: an editor-in-chief of Inquirer, an environmentalist and current consultant of the World Bank, and a professor from Yale University and St. Mary’s at the United States of America. The topics were SOGIE Bill and LGBTQIA+, climate change, and patronage of the Philippines’ movies and culture. The winners of the said contest received certificates and a cash prize and the said organization prepared a consolation prize and certificates also for other participants who didn’t make it to the top three (3) winners of the contest.
