ISDNB-Makati Heritage Studies (MHS) Benchmarks with DLSU-D’s Cavite Studies Center

On two separate days, the Institute for Social Development and Nation-Building (ISDNB), Makati Heritage Studies (MHS) team held benchmarking activities with De La Salle University-Dasmarinas-Cavite Studies Center (DLSUD-CSC), to learn about the best practices employed by the center in terms of curriculum design, teaching methodologies, research activities, and innovations.

The benchmarking activities attended by the Institute for Social Development and Nation-Building (ISDNB), Makati Heritage Studies (MHS) Department Head Dr. Erlinda B. Dizon, ISDNB Secretary Ildebrando Caday, and faculty members; Asst. Profs., Jennifer U. Garcia, Luis P. Olivar, and Joseph Alvin A. Treyes.

In a meeting with Dr. Jan Phillip Mallari, CSC Director, he highlighted that through these visits, MHS can carry on with its programs and stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the education sector, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

A significant discussion was also held with the University Research Office (URO) and Ethics Review Committee (ERC) on day 2. These departments introduced the guidelines and practices of institutional research among undergraduate students (thesis preparation, advising, payments, ethical practices with topic presentations, and research journal publications). They also mentioned the Cavite Development Research Program (CDRP) which encouraged the academe not only to work with local government units (LGU) in the province but also with other academic institutions as well as other private agencies.

A tour was also held at Museo de La Salle. It is home to three historic homes that are situated in Bulacan (Balagtas town) and Pampanga (Sulipan and Bacolor towns). Religious farming tools, antique furniture, religious pictures, paintings, and images from the Gonzales and Panlilio clans are among the historical collections. Additionally, Ms. Salvador disclosed that all of the collections are used in discussions and activities that are part of several DLSUD course offerings.
