Japanese Medical Professionals and Students Visit UMak
26 February 2024 – Assisted by the Nemoto Travel and Tours, visitors from various schools and companies related to pharmaceuticals, medical, social welfare, and academe from Japan came conducted their Medical and Nursing Care Study Tour in the Philippines their visit to UMak was about the Institute of Nursing (ION).
The Japanese visitors were interested in the admission process, statistics of the enrolled students, and how much it costs to study Nursing at UMak.
The Institute of Nursing (Institute-Dean, Enrico S. Santos, Institute-Secretary Rosalie I. Catanghal, and Department Heads Professors, Josephine D. Robinos and Francis Jay N. Enriquez) with the aid of a language interpreter Jenalyn Ligsa, gave insights about the qualifications and requirements of nursing students, the ratio of the UMak nursing students against the working population and the starting income of the public and private nurses.
They explained that some Filipino nursing graduates, specifically scholars, still choose to serve the country for two years to gain experience before working abroad. In terms of supporting the nursing graduates, they discussed how the school provides guidance for employment and how the city government gives financial assistance to those who passed the board exams by returning them their review expenses.
One of the guests expressed his awe at the university’s world-class facilities and warm accommodation. The discussion continued about the advantages and disadvantages of the Filipinos working in Japan.
They concluded the visit with a quick tour of the facilities and equipment related to the Institute of Nursing. The visitors lost track of time and enjoyed every bit of facts they learned about the Heron community and the City of Makati.
