We are now one with Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) and Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) in contributing to the body of knowledge through research and in helping each other publish in SCOPUS-indexed journals.

“We aim to have one hundred SCOPUS-indexed published papers by the end of 2024.” (Delos Santos, 2024)

A statement that the Center for University Research, through the leadership of Director Florante E. Delos Santos, RGC (Sir Rante), is committed to fulfill. A statement that became the vision of our Center for University Research for this year- a promise to invigorate UMak’s research strategies to level up in the world university rankings as an impactful academic institution.

The ink has not yet been dried. But the journey started!

The research forum featured papers from each of the colleges of BiPSU and one from UMak’s College of Arts and Letters in the person of Prof. Mark Philip Paderan, “Functionalism in Folk Healing Narratives of Bato, Camarines Sur”. UNIVERSITAS will publish a detailed conference proceedings on this soon! Heads up on https://journals.umak.edu.ph/universitas.

Ms. Lanie P. Plecerda from the School of Teacher Education Biliran Campus (STEd Bilcam) won the Best Paper Award for her research entitled “Design and Development for Small Island Medicinal Plant Leaf Identification.”

While Ms. Maria Opelia Moreno from the School of Agribusiness and Forest Resource Management (SABFoRM) was named Best Paper Presenter for her study, “Diversity and Status of Fern Species in Mt. Panamo, Almeria, Biliran, Philippines.”

UMak is grateful to SLSU and BiPSU for starting these partnerships. It is a journey of innovation and collaboration (Cañezo, 2024). A journey that has true impact for all stakeholders (Lucero-Prisno, 2024). As promised by Sir Rante, borrowing from Gen. McArthur, UMak “shall return” and shall continue to strengthen these partnerships. And of course, we are excited to return the hospitality when SLSU and BiPSU visit us.

Padayon!
