Mandaue City College’s President personally benchmarks with UMak

05 March 2024 – The President of Mandaue City College, Dr. Lilibeth P. Mayol visited UMak to benchmark the best practices of the University. Her inquiries focused on the programs related to information technology, and resources like books in the Library and laboratories.

Prof. Elyxzur C. Ramos, university president, and Prof. Virgilio B. Tabbu, Vice President for Student Services and Community Development welcomed Dr. Mayol and shared their experiences visiting schools in provinces. Dr. Mayol was grateful for their meeting and hoped for future collaborations despite the distance of the schools. She also briefly shared the history of their college.

The Library Procurement Coordinators (Ms. Paula Joyce D. Alamillo and Ms. Kristine Anne N. Lumaban) stated their strategies for acquiring print and online resources required for the offered programs. They gave an insight into how they extended the library space through an online library with eBooks and suggested investing in a digital library with subscriptions.

Mr. Jonathan B. Canapi, Director of the Center for Information Technology explained the scope of the biometrics and the homegrown system used in monitoring the teachers’ attendance. Then, the College of Computing and Information Sciences (Department Heads Ms. Janice Pola D. Congzon, Ms. Jennifer T. Carpio, and Mr. Edgardo T. Cruz) discussed the hybrid teaching setup, digitalized class scheduling, and the number of units given to part-timers and regulars.

They also emphasized the importance of curriculum development and alignment of faculties of each program. Dr. Mayol expressed gratitude for providing all the essential information throughout the discussion.

As the tour concluded, she was impressed with several available laboratories and equipment. She intended to visit with her admins and teachers next time.
