Makati Heritage Studies Launches First Lecture Series for the Second Semester
08 March 2024 – The ISDNB-Makati Heritage Studies Department held its inaugural lecture series, which drew over 200 participants, at the newly renovated University of Makati Auditorium.
In her opening remarks, ISDNB Dean Dr. Lucia Dela Cruz provided the role of all MHS students in promoting and preserving Makati City’s rich cultural identity, as well as their potential contribution to building a better and just society.
For Lecture 1, Mr. Anthony Xenon Walde, an Environmental Planner of the Department of Environmental Services (DES) of the City Government of Makati, discussed the implications of climate change and actions that can be taken to address it. In addition, he presented the city’s initiatives for dealing with the issue. Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Joseph Alvin Treyes, MHS faculty, and Dr. Jioffre Acopra, CAL faculty, introduced Makati City’s creeks’ history and effects on the environment.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Mark Joshua Fabula provided his talk on the University of Makati’s School of Law’s (SOL) Legal Aid Services. Asst. Profs. Lorna Esquivel and Ueseni Gabriel, CAL faculty members, had insightful discussions on the Bailes de los Arcos and Barangay Poblacion heritage houses.
