Seminar-Workshop on Suicide Prevention Held at iAcademy in Makati City

The Counseling and Guidance Center Society (CGCS) participated in the “Race Against Suicide: A Training Toolkit for Suicide Prevention” event at iAcademy in Makati City on April 26, 2024.
The event aimed to equip counselors with essential tools and knowledge to combat the rising trend of suicide cases. CGCS Director Prof. Ryan Villanueva and Guidance Coordinators, Ms. Estella Obnamia, Ms. Hanna Roxas and Ms. Aiko Caguioa attended the said training.
Keynote speaker Dr. Shake Hocson, Director of Guidance at both FEU Manila and Makati campuses, guided participants through a comprehensive seminar-workshop focused on fostering an alliance among counselors. It also aimed building a robust network for professional development.
The training facilitated crucial discussions and exchanges of insights. These intended to enhance the counselors’ capacity to identify, to intervene, and to support individuals in crisis.
By providing a platform for collaboration and the sharing of best practices, the event sought to empower counselors with the necessary skills and resources to effectively address suicidal ideation and behaviors within their communities.
As suicide prevention continues to be a pressing concern worldwide, initiatives such as the “Race Against Suicide” serve as invaluable opportunities to unite professionals in the field, fortify their expertise, and ultimately save lives.
Through collective action and ongoing education, organizers and participants alike are committed making meaningful strides in preventing suicide and promoting mental health awareness.
