Statement on the Bombing of Mindanao State University – Marawi

Joint statement from the presidents of the University of Makati, Universidad de Manila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, City College of Mabalacat, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, Paranaque City College, Quezon City University, Dr. Felimon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Pinas and Navotas Polytechnic College on the Bombing of Mindanao State University – Marawi last December 3, 2023.

3 DEC 2023 – OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT – We strongly condemn the devastating bombing at Mindanao State University

(MSU), an unforgivable act that has caused extreme pain and suffering to innocent lives within the university community. We deeply mourn this tragic incident, and in solidarity, we express our heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and loved ones.

This heinous act disregards the values of peace, understanding, and education that should be upheld in any society. Academic institutions like MSU have no place for acts of terrorism, for these are places dedicated to cultivating knowledge, nurturing growth, and creating a future—a secure and safe haven for students and personnel alike.

We call for unity in denouncing such acts of violence and urge authorities to expeditiously investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. Let us come together as a community, resilient amidst adversity, and work towards creating a world where education can thrive without fear.

Together, we reject violence as a means of expression and advocate for dialogue, compassion, and understanding as the foundation for a brighter future for all the communities around the world.
