Ten Alumni Soar to Greater Heights, Recognized as Remarkable Alumni Heron

15 March 2024 – Ten remarkable alumni were named among the thousands of herons produced by the University of Makati (UMak) at the UMak Auditorium during the awarding ceremony of the Remarkable Alumni Herons Awards.

“Despite those times na ganun pa po ang stature ng University of Makati, a few proud Herons stood out and you served as an inspiration na hindi porket pampublikong Pamantasan, ang kalidad ng kanyang estudyanteng pinoproduce ay mababa ang kalidad.” The proud University President, Dr. Elyxzur Ramos, congratulated the Remarkable Alumni Herons Awardees, who, are some, products of the humble Makati Polytechnic Community College and Makati College in Gil Puyat Avenue where UMak was still considered as “school of last resort”.

Now that the “sky is the canvass” of all UMak Herons, the globally competitive UMak, 10 graduates from the education sector, government service, and corporate world were selected to be in the roster of the 3rd batch of the prestigious awards for UMak alumni. Among them are:

Kim Abbang (BS Biology, 1999; Certificate in Teaching, 2001); Michael Anthony Alpajaro (BS Accountancy, 2014); Mark April Arevalo (BS Construction Management Technology, 2005); Ginalyn Balte-Panghulan (BSE English, 1998, Magna Cum Laude) Carolina Bermudez-Manzano (Associate in Industrial Computer Technology, 1992; AB English, 1997; Master in Public Administration, 2003); Jefrry Caya (Higher School ng UMak, 2014; Diploma in Industrial Facilities Management, 2016; Bachelor in Automotive Technology, 2019); Evan Jesusco (Bachelor in Physical Wellness, 2012); Teresita Llanza-Nacion (BS Secretarial Administration Major in Secretarial Education, 1990, Cum Laude); Miguelito Relente (Technical High School, 1988); and Fidela Suelto (Executive Doctorate in Leadership Education, 2017).

THE 3RD REMARKABLE ALUMNI HERONS AWARDEES. The triadic charm celebrates Herons who have soared beyond the horizons and are worthy of a merit called “RAHA”.

Police Captain Mark April Arevalo delivered a response on behalf of this year’s recipients. “Wala kami ngayon kung hindi dahil sa ating beloved alma mater. Sa mga naging butihing haligi nito ngayon at sa mga nakalipas na taon, hindi matatawaran ang paghubog ninyo sa amin.” Arevalo recalled his co-curricular activities in the university as member of the dance troupe giving his speech.

Meanwhile, Makati District Representatives, Cong. Romulo Peña, Jr. and Cong. Luis Jose Angel Campos, Jr. represented Mayor Mar-Len Abigail Binay and graced the ceremony to commend the alumni who are considered living models of UMak and embody its commitment to building well-rounded, resilient, and globally competitive professionals and leaders.

The Treasurer of the Association of UMak Alumni, Inc., Mr. Joel Advincula challenged the RAHA recipients to give three Ts to the University – time, talent, and treasure.

University Secretary, Ms. Juvy Hermosura, welcomed and encouraged all present at the event to reflect on the milestones the UMak community has achieved together and how it shaped the minds of future countless individuals who will soon be recognized as the next remarkable alumni.

The Center for Alumni Affairs received numerous nominations from the UMak community and other public and private organizations which were all carefully assessed by the selection panel headed by USec. Juvy Hermosura; together with Administrative Employees Representative, Rey Blanco; Faculty Representative, Dr. Marivic Cuizon; Student Representative, Mr. Rodjan Fat; and University Registrar, Dr. Danilo Sabado.

The UMak Dance Xtreme and UMak Jammers joined the event to add more flavor to the colorful awarding and welcome celebration to the Alumni Herons who keep soaring high.
