Higher School ng UMak STEM Students Joins GMA Network’s “Unang Hirit Quiz Bee”

Two students from the University of Makati – Higher School ng UMak joined the GMA Network TV Morning Show “Unang Hirit” Quiz Bee segment during its live broadcast earlier, March 5, a day after the opening ceremony of the month-long University’s 52nd Foundation Anniversary at the University of Makati Stadium.
Unang Hirit Hosts Lyn Ching-Pascual and GMA Sparkle Artist Sean Lucas served as quiz masters. It was attended by a huge crowd of Senior High School students from different tracks. The hosts were surprised by the energy of the audience who supported their contender.

The contestants were Senior High School Grade 12 STEM Students Matthew Charles Lugay and Roselyn Mahipos. Matthew completed from junior high school with high honors, Quizzards 2023 champion, and Scierens “The Battle of Heads and Tails” 2024 champion. He ranked Top 7 at the recently concluded MSP-NCR Nationwide Senior High Search for Math Whizz 2024 held at Mapua University last February 24.
Meanwhile, Roselyn also completed junior high school with high honors and batch Salutatorian, Scierens “The battle of Heads and Tails” 2024 champion, and Division Science Concept Quickshare 2021-2022 1st placer.

They were supported by Dean Corazon Benosa, Technical and Vocational Department Head Audimor Pelayo Math Teacher Raymond Dela Vega, and other Higher School ng UMak faculty.

The quiz includes 5 easy questions with 10 points each and another 5 difficult ones with 50 points each, covering mathematics, science, and general knowledge. In the end, Roselyn Mahipos emerged as the winner who received a gold medal with P5,000.00 cash while Matthew Lugay received a silver medal with a consolation prize amounting to P3,000.00.

To make the live quiz bee livelier, UMak Dance Xtreme or UDX performed “I Love UMak” for every correct answer from the contestants, which was also applauded by Unang Hirit hosts and live audiences.
GMA Network’s UH Quiz Bee is a live segment of the TV morning show “Unang Hirit” which features High Schools within the Philippines.
