UMak participates in Consultation-Workshop for the Intelligent Assessment of the LEPT

The University of Makati (UMAK) participated in the Teacher Education Council (TEC) Consultation Workshop for the Intelligent Assessment of the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) held on April 24 to 26 at the Teachers Camp, Baguio City.

The Teacher Education Council, through the Quality Pre-Service Teacher Education Office of its Secretariat organized the convergence. Deans, Program Heads, LEPT Coordinators and representatives from selected Public and Private Teacher Education Institutions (TEI) in Luzon attended the event. The Dean of the College of Innovative Teacher Education (CITE) Dr. Jayson Bergania represented UMak. The three-day workshop was in pursuant with Section 10(a)(2) of the Republic Act No. 7784, also known as the “Excellence in Teacher Education Act,” as amended by Republic Act No. 11713.

 

Day 1

The first day opened through a registration and networking activity among the participating TEIs.  The formal session began in the afternoon through a welcome message and a plenary discussion on the Collaborative Implementation of RA 11713 by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) and the Teacher Education Council (TEC) delivered by the TEC Executive Director IV, Dir. Runvi V. Manguerra. This was followed by the presentation of PRC Commissioner, Dr. Jose Y. Cueto Jr., on the Outcomes and Implications of the data from the Analysis of the 10-year BLEPT Performance Standing of Teacher Education Institutions from 2013-2023, and the Initial Inputs to the draft of the LEPT Intelligent Assessment Framework.

 

Day 2

The second day started with a round table discussion and a workshop on Enhancing Teacher Competence through Intelligent Assessment in the Licensure Examination Framework moderated by the members of the TEC Secretariat. In the afternoon, Saint Louise University Vice President for Academic Affairs and TEC Zonal Representative-Luzon, Dr. Felina P. Espique, shared their best practices on Mechanisms in Preparing Pre-Service Teachers for the LEPT. Day 2 ended with the presentation of outputs from the round table discussion and workshop sessions.

 

Day 3

On day three, Dir. Manguerra moderated a session recapping participants’ synthesized recommendations, proposed solutions, and strategies. These aimed to improve the initial draft of the Intelligent Assessment Framework. The next part included short messages of impressions and responses from selected TEI representatives in attendance. Dr. Bergania was requested to give a message of support on behalf of the local universities and colleges (LUCs) to the initiatives of the Teacher Education Council and to the upcoming programs to improve the LEPT.
