2023 Bar Passers from School of Law Meet City Mayor: Vow to “give back” to Makatizens

 

Present at the luncheon meeting are the University of Makati President, Dr. Ramos, and the management committee, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, department heads and officials, and the School of Law Dean Atty. Jord Jharoah B. Valenton, and faculty staff.

This morning, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay invited the Heron Lawyers to a congratulatory luncheon for passing the 2023 Bar Exam showcasing the profound investment and support of the City to academic excellence.

Together with Congressman Luis Campos, Mayor Abby shared her experiences and how she went through the Ateneo Law School as a by-then law student herself. “Don’t sign any document if you don’t read it”, a lesson learned from her father who is a human rights lawyer himself, the Dean Emeritus of UMak School of Law and former Philippine Vice President Jojo Binay, who also has the idea to build the School of Law in the University of Makati in 2017.

She then emphasized that she should not be credited alone for their achievements, but new Heron lawyers must be thankful to professors, faculty, and deans who pursue, support, and help them along their journey. She also reminded them to give their first paychecks to their parents as a sign of gratitude for the sacrifices made for them.

She is also opening opportunities for the new Heron lawyers to express their gratitude by providing their services to the City of Makati.

As a response on behalf of the passers, Atty. Yvette Veronica Rueda, the top 14 of the recent September 2023 Bar exam, expressed gratitude towards the city and the University of Makati for the support of their studies and bar operations. “We will give back to the city”, she added.

Atty. Jord Jharoah B. Valenton, Dean of the School of Law stated that other local universities and colleges are inspired to establish their school of law because of the University of Makati’s School of Law achievements.

The UMak School of Law recently ranked first among schools with 50 examinees or less with a passing rate of 94.12 percent in the September 2023 Bar examinations and Ranked 1 law school with 50 or fewer takers.

Present at the luncheon meeting are the University of Makati management committee officials, Makati City department heads and officials, and the School of Law faculty and staff.

For aspiring lawyers, The University of Makati – School of Law is providing full scholarships for those who pass the Law School Admission Test and procedures.

School of Law has also an 88.89% passing rate during the 2022 Bar Examinations and a 100% passing rate during the 2020-2021 Bar Examinations of #PioneerNine batch.
