Assistant Professor Sonia F. Pimentel, MDMG

Dean, College of Governance and Public Policy

Sonia Fontanilla-Pimentel is Assistant Professor, Dean of the College of Governance and Public Policy and concurrent Director of the Special Programs in Governance of the College of Continuing, Advanced and Professional Studies, University of Makati. She earned the degrees Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Master in Development Management and Governance from the same university, where she is reading for a Doctor of Public Administration degree. Professor Pimentel has presented papers in international conferences in the Philippines, Taiwan, and Indonesia and is a Lifetime Member of the Philippine Society for Public Administration.

Her areas of teaching and research are in Philippine local politics, public policy, and local government administration with a special interest in policies of diversity and social inclusion. Professor Pimentel’s most recent international publication, ‘Improved Access and Participation for Persons with Disabilities in Local Governance’ saw print in Policy & Governance Review, in its January 2020 issue.

Prior to joining the academe, Professor Pimentel first served as Corporate Secretary of the family-owned Farmboys Corporation, a company involved in agriculture and livestock production and retail. In 2010, she joined the government service and acquired considerable experience in local government operations when she handled administrative and other special concerns in the Provincial Government of Camarines Norte, first for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Office of the Vice Governor, and later, for the Office of the Governor. Professor Pimentel currently serves as a consultant of the Provincial Disability Affairs Council. She likewise periodically gives advice on inclusive polices to companies involved in the construction of public infrastructure.
